Group Travel News: Luxury All-inclusive Resorts in Mexico for Your Next Corporate Meeting

By Amy Brueckner

Are you tasked with finding the perfect hotel or resort for your company off-site meeting? Or perhaps you’re in charge of the President’s Club (PClub) sales incentive trip. If you’ve ever worked on big, corporate group travel or all-company off-site meetings, you know it’s a lot like herding cats…both dealing with the travelers and managing the budget! At CIRE, we do a lot of corporate group travel for anywhere from 20 travelers to 500 (and more!).  A lot of our clients like destination resorts that have an all-inclusive option since it helps keep spending within the approved range. And we agree!  Earlier this month, I was invited by our friend and partner Pedro Spignolio, Global Sales Director at Hyatt, to attend a familiarization (educational) trip visiting multiple resorts in Mexico that are part of their World of Hyatt Inclusive Collection. Read on if you’re looking for ideas for your next corporate offsite or PClub destination.

Pedro & Amy in Isla Mujeres

Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya

Just a 45-minute drive from the Cancun airport, Mayakoba feels a world away from the busy “hotel zone.” Mayakoba is a gated community covering approximately 600 acres. There are multiple golf clubs, private residences, and four luxury hotels in Mayakoba, including the Andaz. You can bike, boat, or golf cart around the property, enjoying the views of the mangroves and the beach. We toured the gorgeous property, spa, restaurants, and one of their oceanfront suites, before sitting down to a lovely seaside lunch at Sotavento, an award-winning beach front dining option. Luxe and low-key, I loved the vibe at Andaz Mayakoba and the entire team there aims to please!

Overall Vibe: Coastal jungle
Number of rooms: 214
Dining highlight: Casa Amate restaurant, open exclusively for dinner, is rated one of Mexico’s top restaurants.
Must Do: Take a nature cruise through the mangroves connecting all the properties in Mayakoba.
Unique Selling Point: Signing privileges at the three other luxury resorts located in the Mayakoba area.

Secrets Moxché Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen was our next stop, not more than 10 minutes south of Mayakoba.  Playa del Carmen is home to the famed Mexican shopping street, La Quinta Avenida (also known as Fifth Avenue). Though once I stepped inside Secrets Moxché, which is connected to Impression Moxché (more on that below), I felt absolutely no reason to leave.  The adults-only resort complex is large and lively! We were there for two nights but didn’t even get to see everything.  I can, however, report on the awesome pools and beach, the wide variety of dining options, and the luxe spa.  There’s a show every night (we saw the fire show). During our stay, there was a large group event happening, so I got to see the hotel work its magic with event set up and execution.  Impressive!  If you’re looking for a lively atmosphere without having to leave the comfort of your all-inclusive resort, Secrets Moxché is a great choice!

Overall Vibe: Something’s always happening!
Number of rooms: 485
Dining highlight: Options, options, options!  Including seven à la carte restaurants, a buffet, several bars & grills, and a 24-hour ice cream and coffee shop!
Must Do: Book a tequila tasting at the Wine Boutique. A unique experience in an elegant space.
Unique Selling Point: So many pools…  Seven pools including a lagoon pool, three man-made cenotes, and a rooftop pool for Preferred Club guests.

Impression Moxché by Secrets

Impression Moxché is connected to Secrets Moxché and Impression guests have access to all of the amenities above plus they also have a private lobby bar, exclusive rooftop infinity pool, and an exclusive beachfront bar and restaurant. At check-in, I met my two(!) butlers who would be taking care of me during my stay.  Anything I needed, I could just text my butlers in our group chat. The suites are extremely spacious with excellent amenities, and a balcony with a hot tub. There were times when I didn’t want to leave my room!  I really felt spoiled.

Overall Vibe: Beachfront luxury
Number of rooms: 198
Dining highlight: The seven-course tasting menu (with wine & tequila pairing) at Teodoro. Fine dining with a Mexican twist.
Must Do: Find the speakeasy! I’m not at liberty to put it in writing but reach out if you want the inside scoop.
Unique Selling Point: Butler service for each suite was the ultimate luxury. They even drew a bubble bath for me one night.

Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancún

Upon our arrival at Secrets Maroma Beach, we were greeted with, “Welcome home.” This was another spectacular beachfront resort, but the warmth of the staff was what I noticed first. Service is at the heart of the property and team. Secrets Maroma Beach is spread out without feeling sprawling.  And I don’t think I would have ever guessed that it had 412 rooms.  We strolled from the lobby to the restaurants, through the spa, and then across the lush grounds before we reached the pool and the picture postcard perfect beach. Before lunch, we passed a poolside sunglass cleaning concierge!  A big hit with our travel agent crew! I could see myself spending a few days here, going from the pool to the beach, and back again!

Overall Vibe: Welcome home
Number of rooms: 412
Dining highlight: Dining al fresco at the Preferred Beach Club made me forget I was on a work trip.
Must Do: Book a couple’s treatment at the spa. There’s a treatment room that is outside, yet completely private.  So unique and special!
Unique Selling Point: Maroma Beach is one of the top beaches in Mexico.  The sand, the water, the views!  And they have sea turtles that lay their eggs and hatch at Maroma, if you’re there at the right time.

Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres

At 507 rooms, Secrets Play Blanca was the largest resort we toured on our 5-day trip.  If you have a big corporate meeting to plan (or an epic wedding!), this is an excellent option. Lots of meeting rooms and dedicated outdoor space for private group gatherings ensure you have flexibility and privacy. Even though this resort just opened recently, the landscaping was amazing. Palm trees, tropical plants, and colorful flowers are used to separate once space from another, giving guests the feeling of privacy and exclusivity. Secrets Play Blanca is a great choice for our clients with larger meetings and group travel.

Overall Vibe: Lush and lively
Number of rooms: 507
Dining highlight: My lunch at the Seaside Grill was possibly the best meal of the trip. Order the fish…you won’t regret it!
Must Do: Have a sundowner in one of the firepits in the middle of the lagoon.
Unique Selling Point: The perfect choice for a group event with 300+ guests.

Impression Isla Mujeres by Secrets

As the catamaran pulled up to the dock at Impression Isla Mujeres, their team was awaiting our arrival, waiving with warm and welcoming smiles.  We disembarked, were handed a cool towel, then a cool drink, and were introduced to our butlers who escorted us to our suites while our luggage was magically whisked up and in the room before we arrived.  Impression Isla Mujeres has the excellent service, delicious food, and luxe amenities I’ve now come to expect from the Impression brand, but this location…WOW!  It almost has a Santorini feel to it.  The resort appears to be built right into the side of the island, six stories tall, with four pools that cascade down from one level to the next. It’s the smallest of the resorts we visited on this FAM trip, which means it only works for the most exclusive company meetings or incentive trips.  But I think that’s ok because Impression Isla Mujeres has a very exclusive feel to it.  I really didn’t want to leave!

Overall Vibe: Secluded elegance
Number of rooms: 125
Dining highlight: Guacamole and spicy passion fruit margaritas by the rooftop, infinity pool.
Must Do: Try every waterside seating option…lounge chairs in the pool, over-water ocean hammocks, dockside daybeds, swim-up bar stools, or a hammock on your private balcony next to your private hot-tub. (Or if you’re more active, wake up for a sunrise hike with Ritik, the head butler. Isla Mujeres is the first place in Mexico to see the sunrise.)
Unique Selling Point: The private, 45-minute catamaran ride from the mainland to Isla Mujeres sets the tone for you to put down your phone and truly relax.
