Just back from: The Dominican Republic

We’re just wrapping up Spring Break Season at CIRE.  Mexico, Costa Rica, Europe and the Caribbean topped the list this year (and most years).  CIRE’s Jason Villacres hit the beach for an unforgettable Spring Break educational trip to the Dominican Republic with our partners at Hyatt Privé.  He toured some fantastic properties on the island including Zoetry Agua Punta Cana, Dreams Onyx, Breathless Punta Cana, Secrets and Dreams Royal Beach, Secrets Cap Cana, and stayed at Dreams Macao Beach Punta Cana.  Read on as Jason shares his ultimate Spring Break experience…

The Vibe

“How can I paint a picture of my arrival at Dreams Macao Beach? The open space of the resort feels so welcoming after a completely full, four-hour flight. I feel the warm ocean breeze and immediately forget about the hustle and bustle of NYC.  I am on Island Time now! Right from the start, the resort has a vibe of relaxation.

Wide open spaces have a feeling of exclusivity. The staff are SO friendly and willing to assist. Since I was booked with a Preferred Club reservation (thank you Hyatt Partners!), the private VIP check-in lounge got things off to a great start. The word that kept coming to mind was ‘tranquility.’”

The Room

“Once I step foot in this big room, with a balcony and an incredible ocean view, I feel even more relaxed. I already know I have to put the balcony to good use in the morning with a cup of coffee (more on the coffee later). The tropical décor of the room is perfect. I always love a rain style shower and this shower is massive. And there’s a whirlpool on the balcony.  Score!  A good night’s rest is always important to me but especially important when I travel.  The bed was great, and I wake up each morning ready to ‘work’ (or beach, sun, food and fun!).”

The Food

“I came on this trip after being quite strict with my diet over the winter.  Well, I quickly abandoned that!  The food was incredible. Which option do you choose? The fresh seafood at Oceana? French cuisine at Bordeaux? BBQ at the Barefoot Grill? Drumroll please…. The answer is whichever one you want! You’re on vacation, after all!  So, I tried almost everything and really enjoyed myself. (I did go to the gym to keep the calories at bay but not sure I won that battle.) And let’s talk about the coffee. I don’t know what it was, but the coffee there was the best coffee I’ve had in years (no, seriously!). Having fish tacos while sitting on the beach, watching the Caribbean waves, wasn’t too bad either.”

The Spa

“I knew a month before this trip that I badly needed a massage to work out all the stress life builds up. Once you walk in to the Pevonia spa and hear the hydrotherapy pool bubbling, you know the only thing you have to worry about is how long you can stay.  I jumped into the hydro pool and sat under the pressurized water jets so they squarely hit my shoulders. Then, I tried out the cold plunge (hey, I heard it’s good for you). I wouldn’t say it was my favorite thing having the cold shock but had to give it a shot. Then the masseuse came to take me away for my deep tissue massage. After the amazing massage, I was led to a dark and quiet ‘relaxation’ room and had a detox juice.  My busy NYC life felt a world away! The whole ambiance and experience of the spa was fantastic. The staff had nothing but smiles and were eager to help.”
