What Ultra-High-Net-Worth Travelers Really Want From a Luxury Travel Advisor

By Eric Hrubant, Founder & CEO of CIRE Travel

I was recently asked by TravelPulse, a trusted news source for travel agents, suppliers and travelers, how travel advisors can attract ultra-high-net-worth clients.

My answer began with something I strongly believe: Do not begin by trying to find rich clients. Begin by becoming the kind of advisor people trust with important travel.

At CIRE Travel, our focus is never on finding the most expensive hotel, the largest suite, or the flashiest experience. It is about understanding what is right for this particular client, on this particular trip, at this particular moment.

As I shared with TravelPulse:

“Luxury service is not about champagne amenities and flashy itineraries. It is about judgment, access, discretion, and making complicated things feel easy.”

That distinction matters because the best luxury travel experiences are not determined by price alone. They are determined by how well every decision reflects the traveler.

The Most Expensive Option Is Not Always the Right One

There is no shortage of expensive travel options in the world.

There are private islands, presidential suites, superyachts, private jets, and experiences unavailable to the general public. All of those things can be extraordinary when they genuinely suit the person taking the trip.

But expense is not the same as excellence.

A famous hotel may be beautiful but too formal for a family that wants to relax. The largest suite may have an impressive floor plan but be located in the least desirable part of the property. A private transfer may sound luxurious, but a well-planned train journey could be faster, more comfortable, and far more enjoyable. The destination everyone is talking about may not be the destination that will make this particular traveler happiest.

Luxury travel planning requires the confidence to recommend what fits, even when it is not the most obvious or expensive choice.

A trusted luxury travel advisor should be able to say, “This is the hotel I would choose for you, and here’s why.”

Luxury Travelers Are Often Buying Relief From Decision Fatigue

Affluent travelers have access to more information and more choices than ever before.

A search for the best luxury hotel in Paris, the top African safari lodges, or the finest private yacht charter can produce thousands of recommendations within seconds. Artificial intelligence can generate an itinerary. Social media can provide endless inspiration. Online booking platforms can display hundreds of available rooms and rates.

But more information does not always create a better decision.

Often, it creates decision fatigue.

Should you stay on the Left Bank or the Right Bank? Is the highly recommended hotel actually right for families? Which suite categories have been renovated? Is the newest resort better than the established one? Which yacht, itinerary, and season will deliver the experience you saw online? Is that tight airline connection technically possible but practically unwise?

The value of an experienced travel advisor is not simply providing more options. It is narrowing those options thoughtfully and explaining the tradeoffs.

Our clients do not need another list of everything they could book. They need a trusted person who understands their preferences, applies real-world experience, and says, “These are the two choices that make sense for you.”

That clarity is part of luxury.

Judgment Is More Valuable Than Access Alone

Industry relationships matter. They can lead to preferred amenities, upgrades, waivers, special recognition, and help when plans change.

Access, however, is only useful when paired with judgment.

Knowing the general manager of a hotel is valuable. Knowing whether that hotel is right for the client is even more important.

At CIRE, we pay attention to the details that cannot always be captured on a booking form. Does the client value privacy or prefer a lively social atmosphere? Do they want every day carefully structured or enough open time to explore? Are they celebrating something? Are they traveling with children, friends, colleagues, or multiple generations? Do they want to see everything, or do they want to exhale?

We also remember that preferences evolve. The perfect trip for someone five years ago may not be right for the person they are today.

Luxury travel should never feel like a template with a higher price tag.

Discretion Is Part of the Experience

For executives, public figures, family offices, and other high-profile travelers, privacy is not an amenity. It’s an expectation.

Discretion means more than protecting personal information. It means understanding when not to draw attention, communicating efficiently with the right people and handling sensitive arrangements without unnecessary noise.

The best service is often invisible.

The car is waiting where it should be. The hotel understands the arrival details. The advisor knows who is authorized to make changes. Personal preferences are remembered without the traveler having to repeat them. Potential problems are addressed quietly, sometimes before the client even knows they exist.

There is no fanfare. Things simply work.

Calm Is One of the Most Valuable Things a Travel Advisor Can Provide

Travel does not always go according to plan.

Flights are delayed. Weather changes. Airspace closes. A hotel room is not ready. A traveler becomes ill. A family changes its mind halfway through an itinerary.

In those moments, luxury is not a bottle of champagne waiting in the room. Luxury is knowing exactly who to call.

A great travel advisor should be responsive without being frantic. Clients should feel that someone capable is assessing the situation, considering the alternatives and moving quickly toward the best resolution.

Panic creates more panic. Calm creates better decisions.

This is where years of experience become especially valuable. When something goes sideways, our clients are not left waiting in a line, searching for another phone number, or trying to determine which solution is realistic.

Their problem becomes our problem to solve.

Technology Can Support Great Service, but It Cannot Replace It

We use technology every day to manage information, monitor travel, and communicate efficiently. It is an essential part of a modern travel company.

But technology is most powerful when it supports human judgment rather than attempting to replace it.

An algorithm can identify a five-star hotel. It may not know that the hotel’s location will frustrate this client, that a particular room category feels dated, or that another property has the right atmosphere for a milestone celebration.

Artificial intelligence can suggest an itinerary. It does not have long-standing relationships with hotel teams, destination partners, guides, and transportation providers around the world.

A booking platform can confirm a reservation. It cannot always recognize when the technically correct option is the wrong decision.

High-touch travel service combines excellent technology with experience, relationships, advocacy, and accountability. The technology helps us work. The human being is still responsible for getting it right.

Trust Is Built One Trip at a Time

CIRE Travel does not try to be the right agency for every traveler.

We work best with clients who value professional guidance, thoughtful curation, and a long-term relationship with their travel advisor. That relationship allows us to learn how they travel, anticipate what matters, and become increasingly valuable with every trip.

It also requires honesty.

A trusted advisor should never pretend to know something they do not. They should never recommend a hotel or experience simply because it is expensive. They should be willing to explain limitations, identify tradeoffs and say when something is not the right fit.

That may not be as glamorous as posting a photograph of a private jet, but it is how lasting client relationships are built.

The ultimate luxury is not having access to everything. It is having someone you trust to help you choose wisely.

And when the inevitable complications arise, knowing that someone is already handling them.

That is what luxury travel service means to us.

Frequently Asked Questions About UHNW Travel Planning

What is a luxury travel advisor?

A luxury travel advisor is a travel professional who provides personalized planning, expert recommendations, industry access, and support before, during, and after a trip. Unlike a traditional booking platform, an experienced advisor evaluates how each hotel, destination, flight, and experience fits the individual traveler.

What do ultra-high-net-worth travelers expect from a travel advisor?

Ultra-high-net-worth travelers value privacy, responsiveness, efficiency, expert judgment, and consistency. They may also require complex logistics, private experiences, dedicated support, and an advisor who can coordinate discreetly with executive assistants, family offices, security teams, and other representatives.

Is a luxury travel advisor only useful for expensive trips?

No. The value of a luxury travel advisor is not determined solely by the cost of a trip. It comes from making better decisions, saving time, managing details, accessing trusted partners, and having professional support when plans change.

Can a travel advisor help when a trip is disrupted?

Yes. An experienced travel advisor can assist with flight disruptions, hotel issues, itinerary changes, and other unexpected events. CIRE Travel also provides access to 24/7 after-hours emergency support, so clients are not left to manage urgent travel problems alone.

How does CIRE Travel begin working with a new luxury client?

Our process begins with a conversation. We learn how the client likes to travel, what they value, what they want from the experience, and how they prefer to work with their advisor. From there, we provide a written recap, initial recommendations, and clear next steps.

CIRE Travel is a full-service, concierge-style travel agency and an affiliate of Global Travel Collection. Our luxury travel advisors plan personalized vacations, honeymoons, private journeys, yacht charters, and complex itineraries for discerning travelers across the country and around the world.
