Tucked between the towering Pitons, Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort is the kind of Caribbean hideaway that instantly slows your pulse. It’s a place where rainforest paths lead to turquoise waters and relaxation feels effortless. My mom and I recently escaped St. Lucia for a spa-filled getaway, and it was pure magic from start to finish. Whether it’s a honeymoon, a family vacation, a girls’ getaway, or a mother-daughter retreat, Sugar Beach cradles you and transforms the purpose of your trip into a lifelong memory.

What’s the Vibe at Sugar Beach?
An oasis nestled between the Gros Pitons. A jungle nook where the beach stretches between two majestic mountains and your villa is tucked into the lush greenery. It’s perfect for those who want to “fly and flop” but still mix in a little activity beyond non-motorized water sports. An authentic slice of the Caribbean. And don’t worry about any pesky mosquitoes; the property uses a natural fumigation process early each morning, so you can step out onto your private terrace in peace.
Top tip: Take a hike, pal! No really. While 24-hour air-conditioned shuttles can whisk you anywhere, I highly recommend a daily walk. Along the way, you’ll find a plethora of exotic flowers, peekaboo views of the Pitons, and maybe you’ll even grab a banana off a tree if you get hungry.

What’s My Room Recommendation at Sugar Beach? The Villas
We stayed in the Banana Patch Luxury Villas, complete with a private pool and views of both the beach and the Gros Pitons. In true Caribbean fashion, it rained one day and honestly, it was bliss. We lounged in our villa, dipped in our pool, and felt completely connected to nature while staying cozy and dry. The rooms are white and fresh, letting the local art pop. Each piece tells a story: you’ll see friendly local faces, a deep appreciation for nature, and even a few nods to cricket, the national sport. The villas offer generous closet space (more like a dressing room), and we were lucky enough to have a very large double-vanity bathroom complete with soaking tub. For those of us who like to spruce up for dinner, it’s the dream “get-ready” space.
Top tip: Traveling with family or friends? The Residences will be your home away from home. Each offers plenty of space (between one and four bedrooms, most with ensuite bathrooms), and if you’re a group of around eight, splurge on the four-bedroom beachfront residence: complete with an infinity pool, generous outdoor space, and a bedroom-to-sand commute of about 20 seconds thanks to direct beach access. These residences are strategically tucked away on the property’s South Beach, where you can enjoy a quieter, more laid-back vibe. It’s also home to the Jetty Burger Shack, where you can dig into something delicious while reggae music sets the perfect mood. And did I mention the sweeping view of the Gros Pitons?

What’s Not To Miss at Sugar Beach? The Spa
My mom and I are massage addicts… if there’s a spa, you’ll find us in robes and slippers! The Rainforest Spa at Sugar Beach has a sweeping entrance that immediately transports you into another world. Think open-air massage huts, chirping birds, and lush greenery all around. We began our experience with a private Temazcal session, a traditional sweat lodge with ancient origins in Mesoamerican cultures, symbolizing the womb of Mother Earth. We steamed to soft music, used Gua Sha tools, and set our intentions for the treatment ahead. Then came a heavenly hot stone and bamboo massage that melted away our (nonexistent) stress. Thank you, Sugar Beach! Afterward, we sipped warm tea, nibbled on snacks, and relaxed with soothing PEMF pads and massaging eye masks. PEMF stands for Pulsed Electromagnetic Field and is a type of mat or pad that uses low-frequency electromagnetic waves to stimulate the body’s cells to help improve performance and support natural healing processes. Who knew you could get so high-tech in the jungle?!

What’s a Sugar Beach Secret? The World-Class Snorkeling
My dad was a PADI-certified scuba diver, so naturally everyone in our family travels with their own snorkel masks and gear. While Sugar Beach isn’t marketed as a snorkeling destination, it truly is a hidden gem for snorkeling. Slip on your mask, snorkel, and fins, swim just a few feet and you’re in a vibrant coral reef! We spent hours exploring under the surface, spotting vase-shaped corals, tiny “fish kiss fights,” and feeling like we had the ocean all to ourselves. Word’s gotten out that the best snorkeling is around the Pitons, so catamarans do cruise by but there’s a clearly marked area just for resort guests. VIP fish only!
A Little-Known Fact: St. Lucia is a Stargazer’s Paradise
For my fellow stargazers, this one’s for you. After devouring mahi-mahi tacos, we watched the sunset, listened to the live reggae band, and gazed up at the night sky. What we first thought was haze turned out to be an entire galaxy…the Milky Way! The longer you stare, the more you see. Absolute magic, and a perfect reminder of how Sugar Beach brings everything full circle: a place where wonder awaits on land in the rainforest, beneath the sea, and high above in the sky.
