One of the questions I get asked all the time is, “What’s the next hot spot?”
If I’m honest, it’s probably one of my least favorite travel questions. I get it. People ask because there’s something exciting about discovering a new place before it shows up on everyone’s social media feed.
After nearly 30 years in the industry, I’ve learned a thing or two.
I’ve learned that the ideal adventure isn’t about following trends. It’s about finding the right corner of the world for the right individual at the right moment in their life.
The perfect trip for a couple celebrating a 25th anniversary is very different from the ideal vacation for a family with teenagers, a burned-out executive, or someone taking their first international adventure. Travel is personal. There is just no one-size-fits-all answer.
That said, if we were sitting down over coffee, these are the three things I’d be most excited to tell you about.
Amanvari – Baja California Sur, Mexico
Aman has long been one of the most respected names in luxury hospitality, and its newest resort, Amanvari, promises to bring the brand’s signature serenity and design to the East Cape of Los Cabos. For those who love privacy, architecture, wellness, and a strong sense of place, this opening has my attention.
Edition Lake Como – Italy
Lake Como has always been iconic, but the arrival of Edition brings a fresh, contemporary perspective to one of Europe’s most storied destinations. It combines the glamour and natural beauty of Como with a more modern and design-forward approach than many of the area’s traditional grand hotels.
AmaWaterways Magdalena River Cruises – Colombia
Perhaps the most intriguing development on my list is AmaWaterways’ new Magdalena River cruises in Colombia. River cruising has traditionally focused on Europe, but this opens an entirely new region for people seeking culture, history, cuisine, and a deeper connection to a destination. I believe we’re going to see growing interest in South America over the next several years, and this is an exciting example of that evolution.
Will these be the right trips for everyone? Of course not. What I love about all three is that they reflect something I’ve always believed: the best trips aren’t necessarily the most popular ones, they’re the ones that are thoughtfully chosen for you.
The next perfect getaway isn’t the one at the top of the trending list. It’s the spot that truly speaks to who you are, what you value, and what you need right now.
That’s the difference between booking a trip and designing one.
