I love London. I mean love. Give me a choice of travel spots worldwide, and London wins every time. England boasts an incredible array of beauty, from the Cotswolds’ picturesque charm to the Lake District’s breathtaking landscapes, yet for me, nothing quite compares to the majesty and allure of the grand city of London. A vibrant fusion of history, culture, and modern sophistication, it offers a captivating blend of iconic landmarks and hidden gems. Whether you’re drawn to its bustling streets for business travel or its rich offerings for vacation travel, London is a year-round destination that caters to every taste. Here’s my guide to some of my favorite London hotspots that will enhance your visit, whether you are looking for luxury, comfort, or just a laid-back locale for a cocktail.
My Favorite Spots for a Spot of Tea in London
Elegant, indulgent, and oh-so-British, afternoon tea is a London must-do. Whether you go traditional with finger sandwiches and scones or opt for a modern twist with Champagne and themed treats, it’s the perfect mid-day pause. Served in everything from grand hotels to charming cafés, afternoon tea is less about the tea and more about the experience. Pinkies up—this is a ritual worth savoring.
Fortnum & Mason
There is only one thing better than afternoon tea: afternoon tea and shopping! Combining tradition and indulgence, this is a perfect place to savor an exquisite tea before browsing the legendary store’s curated selection of gourmet goods and luxurious items. Oh, make sure you dive into Fortnum’s Strawberry Preserve or Lemon Curd. They are divine.
Step into a world where high tea is a feast for the eyes and the palate. The Rosewood’s Art Afternoon Tea is inspired by famous artists and London’s vibrant art scene. Every delicacy is crafted with the elegance and imagination of a masterpiece. Served in the hotel’s Mirror Room, the tea begins with traditional fare before transitioning into showstopper art-inspired pastries that you won’t soon forget.
Known for its whimsical, child-friendly tea experiences, this is an excellent spot if you’re traveling with little ones. The themes are often creative and fun, making it a memorable outing for the whole family.
A quintessential London experience, afternoon tea at The Savoy is the epitome of elegance. Nestled in this historic hotel, the tea service is impeccable, offering delicate pastries and perfectly brewed tea in a setting that exudes timeless charm.
The Absolute Best Gin Bars in London
London and gin go way back. The city embraced the spirit in the 1700s, and over time, refined it into the crisp, clean London Dry style we know today. From historic distilleries to modern craft makers, gin is deeply woven into the city’s cultural fabric. Whether you’re sipping a G&T in a classic hotel bar or touring a trendy micro-distillery, London is the ultimate destination for gin lovers.
The American Bar at The Savoy
My introduction to the world of gin began here, and it remains a favorite. Known for its classic cocktails and unparalleled ambiance, it’s a must-visit for gin lovers and those just beginning their relationship with the spirit.
The Gin Bar at the Rosewood Hotel
A chic spot with a vast gin selection, this bar offers a sophisticated yet relaxed environment for sampling innovative and expertly crafted drinks. Be sure to ask for a peek at the famed Gin Bible, a beautifully curated guide based on the four main flavor profiles of the gin wheel (juniper-forward, citrus, spice, herbal/floral). This treasure trove of expertise is sure to lead you to your next favorite drink, tailored perfectly to your taste.
Dukes Bar at Dukes Hotel
I mean – it’s Dukes. Famous for what some say are the world’s best martinis, Dukes Bar is steeped in tradition and charm. It’s a quiet, refined setting for savoring a perfectly balanced gin cocktail. Whether you want to unwind after a business meeting or get together with friends, the exceptional mixology team will take good care of you. The only three words you’ll utter as you sink into your comfy chair will be, “Shaken, not stirred.”
The Best Sunday Roasts
No trip to London is complete without experiencing the beloved British tradition of the Sunday roast. Picture this: perfectly roasted meats, golden potatoes, seasonal veg, and a generous pour of rich gravy—all topped off with a fluffy Yorkshire pudding. Served in cozy pubs and upscale restaurants alike, the Sunday roast is more than a meal; it’s a weekly ritual. Come hungry and come early—locals take this one seriously.
Guinea Grill in Mayfair
I’ve been here several times, and it never disappoints. Renowned for its traditional roasts, this spot pairs succulent meats with perfectly roasted vegetables and rich gravy in an inviting setting that feels like a time capsule from an earlier era.
The Harwood Arms
With a Michelin star under its belt, this pub elevates the Sunday roast to new heights. The restaurant strives to use as much wild food as possible, and the seasonal vegetables from the rooftop garden are often on the menu. The combination of culinary finesse and warm hospitality makes it a standout choice.
The Garden Gate
A personal favorite, this cozy pub serves up hearty, delicious roasts in a friendly, laid-back atmosphere, perfect for a leisurely Sunday. The enticing aroma of home cooked dishes calls to you, offering comfort and delight whether you enjoy a quiet moment alone or share a meal with loved ones. I can never seem to get their Yorkshire Pudding out of my mind!
Where I Stay When I Go to London
My most recent stay here was nothing short of exceptional. The all-suite hotel boasts iconic views of the city skyline and Hyde Park. Each floor features aesthetics from different designers who have created welcoming spaces for living, entertaining, and unwinding. If you seek tranquility and wellness on your travels, you’ll certainly find it in the hotel’s sprawling four-story sanctuary featuring a nearly 25-meter pool, inviting you to unwind and rejuvenate in utter bliss.
Housed in the historic Old War Office, this hotel was once inhabited by Britain’s most famous statesmen and spies. Novelist Ian Fleming took inspiration from the landmark for the James Bond series, and several 007 films were filmed there. Check into the spectacular Haldane Suite, once used by Winston Churchill, and enjoy its prime views and antique fireplaces.
Located along Hanover Square in the heart of London, this boutique hotel offers understated luxury and exudes warmth, comfort, and exclusivity. I love a hotel rooftop bar, but one offering stunning panoramic views from Mayfair to Hampstead Heath and the London Eye? Dirty martini, please, because I’ll be here awhile!
Known for its opulent design and world-class dining, The Peninsula is a haven of luxury that delivers an unforgettable experience. One of the many reasons I love this hotel is that when you just aren’t in the mood for the short stroll to Buckingham Palace, Kensington Gardens, and other London attractions, you can grab a lift from one of the hotel’s fleet, which includes vintage Rolls-Royce limousines.
This eco-luxury hotel combines sustainable practices with modern design. Its prime location and welcoming vibe make it a standout choice for travelers seeking comfort with a conscience. The hotel’s lush, live green walls and individual trees and plants throughout the property create a sense of oneness with nature while right in the middle of the city.
